ma (間)
Ma (間) is the Japanese concept that reflects on the pause in time. The emptiness of the void from which life springs forth. Ma describes a space filled with energy and feeling, embodying silence, not sound.
When painting abstracts, my mind is tranquil, braced, and open. Each mark, each incision, and brushstroke are all part of this process—the traces of my movements, the speed of my brush, and the nuanced textures capture my rhythm in time. My abstract paintings echo the idea that all life begins from the empty void. A space where the emptiness enhances the energy imbued into each of my brushstrokes.
